Welcome to The Brainlift. I’m Erman Misirlisoy and I'm a neuroscientist who writes about brains, behavior, productivity, and mental health. My mission is to write stories that combine cutting-edge science with practical insights for better living. I always keep three major priorities in mind whenever I write for subscribers:
1) The content is grounded in real science and evidence, not pseudoscience or any other kind of quackery.
2) The content is easy to understand, and more importantly, fun to read!
3) The content contains actionable insights and practical suggestions that aim to improve your quality of life in some way—it could relate to productivity, creativity, happiness, or any other life priorities you happen to care about.
The Brainlift started on my old website, with the amazing people who signed up for my early newsletters. It’s thanks to their encouragement that I’ve decided to move everything here.
It was growing difficult to find the time and energy to send out newsletters in the old format, so I had to find another way. This new format allows me to keep the original approach for free subscribers: you will all get an occasional newsletter on an important theme related to the brain and mind. But it also allows me to add a paid subscription option, which gives me the opportunity to write more regularly and provide exclusive content for those willing to offer their support.
I’ve never liked the idea of using ads to monetize my work: they can create a conflict of interest and interrupt the experience of reading a story. But I love to write and need to fund the project somehow so that it can become more than just a minor side project.
So if you enjoy the free content you find here, I hope you’ll consider the paid subscription once it launches. There you’ll find even bigger mysteries about the brain and mind beginning to unravel, and you’ll also gain an insight into how my own mind works by reading my more intimate and adventurous ramblings.
We can all expand our awareness of the strings that tug us toward good and bad conscious experiences, and learn to take control of them as far as that’s possible. Ultimately, we’re working toward answering the biggest question of all: Who am I?
Spread the word by telling your friends!
